As-Built Schedule

An as-built schedule is a record of what actually happened on the project -- the real start and finish dates of the work -- as opposed to what was planned.

Definition

An as-built schedule is assembled from the actual start and finish dates recorded in successive schedule updates, daily reports and other project records. It is the factual foundation of methods such as as-planned versus as-built comparison and collapsed as-built analysis. Its quality depends on the quality of the underlying records: recorded dates that do not follow the schedule's own logic (out-of-sequence work, idle time that was never modeled) mean a network rebuilt from logic alone will not reproduce the real dates exactly, which any analysis built on it should disclose.

Example

The as-built record shows structural steel erection started on March 3 and finished on May 16, even though the baseline planned it to finish on April 30.
