EPS (Enterprise Project Structure)

The EPS is P6's top-level hierarchy for organizing multiple projects -- by division, region, or program -- above the level of any single project's own Work Breakdown Structure.

Definition

Where a project's Work Breakdown Structure organizes the activities within one project, the Enterprise Project Structure organizes many separate projects relative to each other, typically by organizational unit, geography, or program. A single .xer export usually carries one project (and therefore doesn't need its EPS context to be understood on its own), but the EPS matters when working across a portfolio of related projects maintained in the same P6 environment, since it's what determines how those projects are grouped and rolled up.

Example

A regional contractor's EPS might be organized as Division > Region > Project, so every active project in the Southeast region rolls up under one EPS node regardless of which office is managing it day to day.
