DCMA-14 · Check 4 of 14
Relationship types
The mix of Finish-to-Start, Start-to-Start, Finish-to-Finish and Start-to-Finish relationships.
What it measures
How heavily the schedule relies on relationship types other than Finish-to-Start.
How Claims Digger calculates it
Among relationships whose successor isn't yet complete, counts how many are Finish-to-Start, Start-to-Start or Finish-to-Finish, and Start-to-Finish. The check passes when Finish-to-Start is at least 90%, Start-to-Start plus Finish-to-Finish are under 10%, and there are no Start-to-Finish relationships.
Why it matters
Finish-to-Start is the most predictable relationship. A schedule that leans on the others is harder to check by eye, and Start-to-Finish in particular is rarely a genuine construction relationship.
How to fix a failure
- Convert relationships to Finish-to-Start where the work really is sequential.
- Where work genuinely overlaps, consider splitting activities rather than using Start-to-Start or Finish-to-Finish with lags.
- Review every Start-to-Finish relationship: it is almost always a modeling error.
Claims Digger runs all 14 checks on any schedule you upload, and lists the exact activities behind every failure. See how the health check works.
